The REAL "Back In The Day"

In light of all the negativity, disrespect for yourselves, your family, your friends, lack of self-respect, and the nerve to act as though the world owes YOU; here's a lil' sumpin'  sumpin' from those of us who still live in the community that SHOULD enlighten YOU! Know that we survived and maybe YOU should look at it as though...."WOW! Maybe the older folks do know what they're talking about..."

1. WE drank from a garden hose; not from water bottles!
2. WE shared one drink with four friends from one bottle and no one died from this!
3. WE ate white bread, butter, whole milk, tons of sweets and drank Kool-Aid with tons of sugar, but we weren't overweight, BECAUSE WE were out playing!
4. WE would leave home in the morning and could play all day as long as we came home when the streetlights came on! NO ONE was able to reach us all day, we had no cell phones, and we came home OK!!
5. WE had sports tryouts and not everyone made a team. Those who didn't had to deal with the disappointment! We dealt with cliques, bullies, and gangs. Imagine that!
6. WE had freedom, failure, disappointments, success, responsibilities, and depression and WE learned how to deal with it all!
7. WE had the neighborhood looking out for our friends, us, and the neighborhood too!
8. WE would never look forward to our teacher sending home a note or calling our parents to let them know we messed up in school! The last thing WE thought about was calling DSS or the Police to help us.
9. WE got into fights with kids from other neighborhoods, One on One! When the 'best man (or woman) won' WE shook hands and went about our business.

10.  Even before Aretha sang about "It", WE practiced "It".

"He whose ranks are united for a positive purpose, will be victorious"
